When Dr Rangitākuku Metekīngi made this statement he was dreaming about a future where Te Ao Māori and Western knowledge would come together to equip us to navigate the new world. Now, as we head towards a post-COVID-19 future, it’s time for us to think about what we want life to look like tomorrow, next year, next century. As for #ProtectOurWhakapapa, we’re thinking about a future that: Enhances our taiao. Puts well being of people at the centre, and Ensures equitable distribution of resources. The Iwi Chairs Forum is inviting us all to share our vision for āpōpō using the hashtag #aotearoa2020vision to share your whakaaro. Ask the whānau. Ask our rangatahi. Let’s CREATE the world we want for our mokopuna.
