As we go through the Tangaroa phases of the moon, remember that in te Ao Māori we always give before we receive.
As we go through the Tangaroa phases of the moon, remember that in te Ao Māori we always give before we receive. When we go fishing, we give our first catch back to Tangaroa - even if it’s a big fat fish! When we weave our first kete, we give it away - it’s a precious and generous gift. But why? Our TūpunaWisdom tells us it’s about 3 things: Gratitude, Sustainable practices, Striving for excellence. When we live a life of giving first, we have more focus on abundance and gratitude and less focus on our own needs and entitlement. We give back to show that we are grateful for the things that we continually receive. When we live a life of giving first, every resource is precious and something we need to use sustainably so it’s always there for our tamariki mokopuna. We give back so that we never walk away leaving the moana or the whenua barren. When we live a life of giving first, we continually strive to be and do the best we can. We learn and practice and develop our skills so we can take pride in the first gift of our mahi. Because no one wants to give away a piece of shit work. As we go through the Tangaroa phases of the moon, remember that in te Ao Māori we always give before we receive. That’s how we #ProtectOurWhakapapa.
